Psoriasis affects about 2-3% of the population or approximately 125 million people worldwide. The first signs of psoriasis usually occur between the ages of 15 and 35.
Psoriasis is the result of a misdirection of the immune system. Our immune system becomes confused and attacks our own skin leading to the inflammatory condition we see as psoriasis. The immune system reacts to a trigger which may be an injury to the skin or an infection. It is possible that the trigger for psoriasis is different in each person depending on their genes. Although many possibilities exist there are no genes that explain all the causes and types of psoriasis.
Types of Psoriasis
The most common form, Plaque Psoriasis, involves patches of raised, red skin covered with a silvery white flaky scale.
Another chronic form of psoriasis is Pustular Psoriasis. Typically pustular psoriasis affects the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet.
A precursor to plaque psoriasis is Guttate Psoriasis. It is usually temporary and can affect the trunk, arms, legs and face.
Erythrodermic Psoriasis is a rare but severe flare that usually affects the whole body.

For Patients, the information you submit on ResearchTrials.org will be used for the above purposes. Because the clinical research sites are located in different countries, your personal information may be transmitted to your nearest research site (or research site you selected).
That research site may be in a different country than the location of the ResearchTrials.org database.
For Sponsors and Physicians, the information you submit on ResearchTrials.org will be used to contact you.

Patients, Physicians and Sponsors have a right of access to their own Personal Information in a record that is in the custody or under the control of Probity, subject to some exceptions set out in applicable legislation. For example, organizations are required under PIPEDA to refuse to provide access to information that would reveal Personal Information about another individual. Further, organizations are authorized under PIPEDA to refuse access to Personal Information if disclosure would reveal confidential business information. Access may also be refused if the information is privileged or the information was generated in the course of a formal dispute resolution process.

The ResearchTrials.org web server captures the Internet Protocol (IP) addresses of each connection to the website and the specific web pages visited during that connection.
