Toenail Fungus (Onychomycosis)

Toenail Fungus (Onychomycosis)

If your toenails are discoloured or abnormally thick, you may have a toenail fungus called Onychomycosis.

Toenail fungus (onychomycosis) is the most common disease of the nails and constitutes about half of all nail abnormalities. The toenail can have a thickened, yellow, or cloudy appearance. The nails can become rough and crumbly, or can separate from the nail bed. There is usually no pain or other bodily symptoms, unless the disease is severe.6-8% of the adult population are affected by toenail fungus. Treatments are available, but because the infection is in the nail and the fungus usually affects the nail bed under the nail, it can take a long time to resolve all symptoms.
